If you are considering building or renovating your own home and want to be an “Owner Builder” then please read on….

For any works over the value of $11,000* you will need to complete an owner builder course, once completed then obtain a permit from the QBCC.

Any work that requires an occupational license i.e. Electrical, Plumber, etc or fire protection then you will need to have a licensed contractor perform this work, you can not do it yourself.

*to determine the value of works, you need to obtain quotes to have the work done by a registered builder, as if he was to do the whole project, that value will then become the value of the works, it is not the value it will actually cost you as an owner builder.
